What is Therapeutic Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy is a therapeutic, integral healing relationship in which the therapist assists the client in restoring, maintaining and enhancing the well-being of the client. During a treatment the tissue and joints are manipulated to develop, maintain and rehabilitate physical function, or relieve pain and stress.

What can I expect from a therapeutic massage therapy treatment?

You will be asked to fill out a Health History Form and to please advise your therapist of any future changes in your health because the massage may have to be modified for your safety.

The therapist will go through your health history thoroughly and ask questions regarding your health and the reason why you are seeking massage.  A full body physical assessment will be done to provide the therapist with a better understanding of where the issues are arising from, followed by an informed consent for treatment.  Please where or bring comfortable clothing.

The frequency, duration and number of therapeutic massages will be determined by how long you have had the problem and its severity.

A friendly, safe and comfortable environment will be waiting your arrival.  As will the confidentially of your complete file.

What types of massages are offered?

Pregnancy:

Massage is safe and beneficial during and after pregnancy. It helps relieve inflammation, aches and pains associated with pregnancy, especially in the shoulders, mid-low back, hips and legs.

The primary treatment goal is to promote a healthy pregnancy by including relaxation techniques and providing a supportive environment as a part of every massage.

Heat is used to decrease pain, to increase local circulation to tight muscles and to relax the client. It would most likely be used on the back (caution low back), buttocks and neck.

Comfort and safety is the main focus for the pillows and the clients body positioning, and will be different with every trimester.

Self-care for during and after pregnancy will be suggested.

Therapeutic Massage:

This type of massage focuses on reducing or relieving pain or discomfort whether it be acute or chronic. Special tests will be performed to determine the cause of the problem and will give the therapist a better understanding of what soft tissue(s) should be treated, and with what techniques.

Therapeutic massage is used for sprains/strains, carpal tunnel, nerve impingement syndromes (thoracic outlet syndrome, sciatica), spasms, whiplash, bursitis, dislocation, inflammation, and much more.

Massage for Infants and Children:

Infant massage is gentle and relaxing and enhances the bond between parent and child. It helps relieve pain caused by gas, constipation, chest congestion, teething and colic. It promotes relaxation for a better sleep and also promotes better overall health.

For youth, physical growing pains occur because the bones are growing more rapidly than the muscles. Massage can help by gently lengthening the muscles and stretching the tissues, providing symptomatic relief of pain.

It is important that children be accompanied by his/her parent or guardian.
